CANDIDATES AND CLOSING DATE FOR
NOMINATIONS TO FILL
EXTRAORDINARY VACANCY

Under Section 52 of the Local Electoral Act 2001, I hereby give notice
that on Friday the 7th day of August 2009, an election will be held
under the First Past the Post electoral system by postal vote to elect
ONE (1) MEMBER of the Malvern Ward of the Selwyn District Council.
Nominations
Nominations open on Thursday 21st May 2009 and must be in my hands at
the Selwyn District Council office, 2 Norman Kirk Drive, PO Box 90,
Rolleston not later than 12 noon on Thursday 18th June 2009.
Each candidate must be nominated on the
official nomination
paper [PDF 450 kb] and be accompanied by a deposit of $200 GST
inclusive, which may be paid by cash, cheque (made out to the Selwyn
District Council) or EFTPOS.

Darfield Service Centre/Library or by contacting the Electoral Officer.
A
candidate may submit a candidate profile statement with their nomination
paper for sending out with the voting documents to electors. The

and procedures governing candidate profile statements.
Preliminary Electoral Roll
Preliminary Residential and Ratepayer Electoral Rolls for the
by-election are available for public inspection from 21st May 2009 until
18th June 2009 (both days inclusive) during normal business hours, and
can be viewed at:

The preliminary roll closes on Thursday 18th June 2009.

Applications for registration as a ratepayer elector are to be in
the form prescribed by the Local Electoral Regulations 2001.
Application forms are available from the Electoral Officer,
and are required to be forwarded to the Electoral Officer, Selwyn
District Council prior to the closing of the roll.
Following closure of the roll, the Electoral Officer may, on application
of any person who is or claims to be entitled to be enrolled or any
other person or otherwise, make any necessary corrections to the names,
addresses, occupations, abbreviations, or marks appearing in the
electoral roll.
Voting Period
If an election is required, the voting period will be from 9am Thursday
16th July 2009 to 12 noon on Friday 7th August 2009.
