Funding Currently Available

Great things can happen when a few keen people decide on a goal and go for it. But sometimes the best intentions in the world can founder for lack of resources. 

That's why we provide information on sources of funding.

We also provide modest funding every year to groups and individuals who are working hard to achieve good community outcomes.

We generally invite applications and grant the funding to those applicants whose projects seem most deserving.

Funding is available to help achieve community outcomes in the following key areas identified in our 10-year Community Plan (or LTCCP):

Social Outcomes

• Selwyn Educational Fund Scholarships (to encourage deserving Selwyn secondary students to pursue tertiary study)

• Heels and Wheels Community Fund (to encourage and support safe and sustainable transport and travel)

• Discretionary funds. The mayor and councillors have a small amount of discretionary funding at their disposal. Applications for these funds are not advertised but are considered according to need on a case by case basis.

Cultural Outcomes

• Creative NZ Arts Grants (to encourage and support the public involvement in the creative arts)

• Selwyn Heritage Fund (to encourage and support the preservation of historical sites, buildings and trees)

Environmental Outcomes

• Selwyn Natural Environment Fund (to encourage and support the preservation, restoration or enhancement of native plants, animals and ecosystems on private land)
