How many councillors or wards do we need?
Rapid growth in different parts of the Selwyn
District has created an imbalance between the
population distribution and the number of elected
representatives (councillors and community board
members).
To correct this, we have
three different options [PDF 500 kb]
which we would like your views on:
-
to increase the number of councillors from 10 to
11, with no boundary changes to the 4 wards;
-
to reduce them from 10 to 6, with small changes
to ward boundaries; or
-
to reduce
them from 10 to 9 and merge two of the wards
(Ellesmere and Springs) so that the total number
of wards is reduced from 4 to 3.
We also need your views on community boards - is the
status quo fine (one board in Malvern Ward, one in
Selwyn Central and none in Springs or Ellesmere) or
do we need more boards or fewer?
Have your say
To
give us your opinion, please
read the
options in more detail, then print off a
feedback form (Word
version or
PDF version) and send it into us with your
written views - and the reasons for your choices.
If
you prefer, you may also just send us a letter or
email

The deadline for written submissions is 5pm
Monday 22 June 2009.
